Introduction

Being a parent is about doing everything with care. At CERELAC®, we believe in that too and that’s why care is at the heart of what we do. We are starting to partner with a number of farmers in Portugal, where our cereals are grown, to improve the sustainability of farming practices. This is the kind of care that finds its way back into each bowl of CERELAC®.

Our pillars: A seed of care

Sustainability - Seeds of care

At CERELAC®, we understand the importance of providing high-quality nutrition for your little ones. We believe that every spoonful should be filled with goodness and care, so to help achieve this, we create long-lasting partnerships with farmers based in Portugal. These farmers carefully select and grow baby-graded ingredients, meaning the ingredients are chosen and processed to meet the rigorous safety standards established for babies. This means they have gone through a high number of quality checks.

Our pillars: Putting nature back at the heart

Sustainability - Seeds of respect

At CERELAC®, we are committed to improving our sustainability actions and targets, to not only nourish little ones today, but also to keep nourishing future generations. That’s why we have embarked on a journey to support regenerative agriculture practices, which is a holistic approach that aims to conserve and restore farmland and its ecosystem.

Regenerative agriculture is a way of farming that works with nature to protect and restore natural resources, such as soil, water and biodiversity. By implementing these practices, we strive to improve soil health and productiveness while at the same time capturing carbon in soils and the renewable energy from plants. This process plays a vital role in reducing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and increasing the resilience of farmland to climate change, ultimately benefiting the livelihoods of our farmers.

We began the initiative by selecting 20% of our farmers to work in partnership with. Together, we have started to implement regenerative agriculture practices, including the use of natural fertilisers and crop rotation. The success of this inspired us to expand our efforts in 2023, increasing the number of farmers and hectares of farmland involved in this project.

Looking ahead, our longer-term ambition is to provide these farmers with the intensive training and support needed for the transition, to enable them to continue this way of working for years to come.

Our pillars: A source of change

Sustainability - Seeds of knowledge

We are proud to have improved sustainability practices in the factory in Portugal where our CERELAC® products are made. One of the key steps we have taken is to use 100% grid-sourced renewable energy, which aims to help reduce the carbon footprint of the factory. We have also implemented a zero waste to landfill policy at our factory meaning that, through comprehensive waste management practices, nothing used within the factory will end up being sent to landfill.

In addition to these efforts, we are proud to share that we have reduced water consumption at the factory by 15% between 2020 and 2023, helping to conserve this vital resource.
